Fall Preparedness

Miyohara Trichology - Bigstock Love and Relationship Between Couples

Fall is now upon us and many women and men often change their hairstyles for the fall season.

Chemical straightening is one type of process that is done. Many people let their hair go natural in the summer months so that they do not have to hassle with upkeep, but once Fall returns, a more conservative polished look is what everyone goes for in keeping with the season’s latest trends.

Fall is actually one of the worst times of the year to chemically straighten hair. It does not matter what type of hair straightener one uses, any straightening technique like Japanese, Brazilian or the ever-so-popular Keratin can lead to hair loss if performed this time of year.

You may ask what makes this so? It is the process of chronobiology. This is when hair cells are in their telegenic phase (shedding) when it begins to expel old hair follicles to generate new hair bulbs.

Just like how the leaves change in fall, so does the cycle of hair. When the hair begins its shedding process, an individual can lose over 200 strands a day, so chemically altering the hair structure can weaken and accelerate the hair to come out even more, leading to baldness.

We, at Miyohara Trichology, advise to hold off on all chemical straightening procedures in the fall. It’s best to focus on nourishing the scalp and hair with high-content moisturizing and organic shampoo and conditioning agents to help counteract and slow down the effects that the fall season has on all hair. Treat the hair with great care, especially in this season. Eat well, drink plenty of water (coconut water for fast hydration), and get at least 8 hours of sleep so that your hair as well as the rest of the body will have an excellent chance to recover.
